DentalXChange Names Scott Hampel President as KKR-Backed RCM Platform Expands

DentalXChange has appointed Scott Hampel as President, putting a healthcare technology executive with more than 25 years of experience in charge of product, operations and engineering at the dental revenue cycle management company.

Hampel reports to CEO Paul Kaiser, who will continue overseeing corporate strategy, growth and partnerships. The company announced the appointment on October 21, 2026.

The role is significant because DentalXChange is moving further beyond conventional clearinghouse services. Its product portfolio now encompasses eligibility verification, payment reconciliation, payer-portal access and other administrative workflows. The appointment brings the teams responsible for building those products and delivering them to customers under one executive.

Scott Hampel's Background in Healthcare Technology

Hampel most recently served as President of Mosai, formerly Medalogix, which develops clinical analytics software for home health and hospice organizations. He joined Mosai as Chief Operating Officer in 2023.

Previously, he spent six years at MedeAnalytics, serving as Chief Product and Strategy Officer and then President. His responsibilities included product development, service delivery and operations.

Earlier in his career, Hampel held senior roles at TriZetto Provider Solutions, including Vice President of Solutions Management. That experience is particularly relevant to DentalXChange because TriZetto operates in provider revenue cycle technology and payer-provider connectivity.

Taken together, those roles align with the job DentalXChange is asking Hampel to perform: coordinate the product roadmap, engineering execution and customer-facing operations across an expanding healthcare technology platform.

Why the Appointment Matters for DentalXChange

The company said Hampel will lead three organizations:

  • Product, including how new capabilities are prioritized and packaged
  • Engineering, including development and delivery of technology
  • Operations, including execution and service for customers and partners

Kaiser remains Chief Executive Officer.

This structure could shorten the distance between product decisions and actual implementation. A revenue cycle feature is valuable only when it works reliably across payer connections, practice systems and real office workflows.

Combining these functions is not evidence by itself that release cycles, support metrics or customer outcomes will improve. It does, however, establish clear executive accountability for those results.

A Clearinghouse Becoming a Broader RCM Platform

DentalXChange traces its history to 1989 and operates a large network connecting dental providers and insurers.

In its announcement, the company reported:

  • A client base approaching 200,000 dental providers
  • Connectivity with more than 1,400 payers
  • More than 1 billion EDI transactions annually
  • More than 300 million dental claims processed annually

Those are company-reported figures and describe different dimensions of network activity; they should not be treated as interchangeable counts.

The company's product portfolio includes Eligibility AI, Reconcile AI, PayConnect, PortalPass and XConnect. Together, these reflect an effort to support more of the steps surrounding a dental claim, rather than simply moving a transaction between a practice and an insurer.

The opportunity is to link those workflows so offices spend less time switching between systems, entering information repeatedly or investigating exceptions manually. The difficulty is making automation accurate and dependable across a fragmented set of payer rules and practice-management environments.

KKR's Investment Provides the Strategic Backdrop

The leadership appointment follows the August 2025 recapitalization of DentalXChange by KKR, after which previous investor Bregal Sagemount exited.

At the time, KKR identified accelerated product development, automation and scalable growth as priorities for the business. In the October leadership announcement, KKR explicitly connected Hampel's appointment to that investment plan.

For an established healthcare technology platform, growth can come from serving additional customers, selling more products to existing customers and improving the cost and speed of delivering those products. But achieving those outcomes requires execution across engineering, onboarding, integration and support.

That makes this appointment more consequential than a title change: it puts the operational functions needed to carry out the sponsor's stated product-led strategy under a single president.

Heartland Dental Is an Important Enterprise Test

DentalXChange's multi-year agreement with Heartland Dental provides a tangible example of its enterprise opportunity.

The companies announced a relationship to deploy Eligibility AI and PortalPass across Heartland's network, which exceeded 1,900 supported offices at the time. Heartland subsequently announced that its network had reached 2,000 supported dental offices.

Deploying technology into an organization of that size is different from selling software to one independent practice. A national DSO needs predictable integration, permissions, training, reporting and support across offices with different teams and operational requirements.

The agreement is evidence of enterprise demand. It is not yet public evidence of realized labor savings, better collections or specific financial returns, which would need to be demonstrated through actual outcomes.

What the Dental Industry Should Watch

Three developments will indicate whether DentalXChange can convert its scale and investment into a stronger RCM platform.

Product delivery. Does a unified product, engineering and operations organization release capabilities faster and deliver them reliably?

Enterprise implementation. Can the company deploy and support its automation products at large-DSO scale without creating a new layer of administrative work?

Measurable workflow impact. Are practices actually making fewer payer calls, completing reconciliation faster and reducing avoidable manual touches?

The larger industry theme is the shift from claims connectivity toward workflow ownership. Clearinghouse relationships give vendors a position inside the revenue cycle, but the next layer of competition is about what they can automate around those transactions.

Hampel's appointment gives DentalXChange a leader with experience in healthcare software, analytics and revenue cycle operations at an important point in that transition.

The next measure of success will not be another product announcement. It will be whether DentalXChange can translate its existing distribution and broader suite into measurable operational improvement for dental practices and DSOs.
