Real Diagnostics is a CLIA-certified laboratory specializing in PCR-based infectious-disease and toxicology testing. It is a portfolio company of HCAP Partners. SimplyTest's flagship PERIO test uses a noninvasive saliva sample to identify periodontal and oral-systemic pathogens, giving clinicians organism-level data intended to support treatment planning and longitudinal monitoring.
The buyer said SimplyTest's PERIO product and provider support will continue without interruption. The acquisition also gives Real Diagnostics a direct entry point into dental practices, adding oral-health testing to a laboratory business that has primarily served medical providers.
Why it matters
This is a small, undisclosed transaction, but it illustrates a broader convergence between dental care, molecular diagnostics and oral-systemic health.
For dental practices, the immediate strategic question is whether salivary testing can move from a specialized add-on into a repeatable clinical workflow. That requires more than laboratory capability: ordering, sample logistics, report interpretation, patient communication, follow-up testing and reimbursement all have to work inside the practice.
The acquisition also shows how established medical laboratory infrastructure can enter dentistry through a focused product rather than by building a dental channel from scratch. That is relevant to the fragmented supplier landscape mapped in Avized's 2026 dental technology market map.
The clinical rationale sits within a larger infrastructure problem. Dental and medical systems still rarely exchange periodontal, laboratory and chronic-disease data in a usable way, as Avized examined in its analysis of the oral-systemic interoperability and revenue-cycle gap. A laboratory that already serves medical providers could eventually help connect those domains, but the announcement does not describe an EHR integration, payer arrangement or outcomes study.
What to watch next
Dental distribution. How many dental practices adopt the testing menu, and will Real Diagnostics sell directly, through DSOs or through clinical partners?
Workflow integration. Does ordering and reporting connect to dental practice-management systems, medical EHRs or existing laboratory portals?
Clinical evidence. Will the combined company publish prospective evidence showing how pathogen-level results change treatment decisions or outcomes?
Payment model. The announcement does not specify test pricing, insurance coverage or patient-responsibility workflows. Those details will determine whether use extends beyond selected periodontal cases.
Portfolio expansion. SimplyTest also markets implant and oral-HPV testing. Real Diagnostics highlighted PERIO in the acquisition announcement, so any broader rollout should be verified product by product.
The transaction is best read as an infrastructure move: a medical molecular-lab platform is using an acquisition to establish a dental testing channel. The commercial significance will depend on adoption, workflow fit and evidence—not the acquisition announcement alone.
